Lambing…

30th April 2020 KateLeave a comment

Sometimes it’s important in life to stop and appreciate lambs frolicking in a field – to admire their unbridled enthusiasm. On our daily dog walk I’ve been enchanted by their sheer joy for each other’s company on a nearby farm. Every time I catch sight of them my day immediately brightens and when the sun… Continue reading Lambing…

British lamb…

2nd April 201819th January 2022 KateLeave a comment

Growing up, lamb was one of my favourite meats and my Mum’s lamb parcels were top of my list. Recently though lamb has been more scarce on the menu. We occasionally have a rack of lamb on a Sunday, lamb kebabs on the barbecue in the summer and once a year we maybe have a lamb tagine. With recent reports… Continue reading British lamb…

The sweetcorn is a success!

It might not be perfect but it’s so worth growing. The flavour of homegrown sweetcorn is just off the scale and can only be eaten with heaps of butter, salt, pepper and chilli flakes.

I’m so pleased I spent so long sowing the seeds potting them on and watering them endlessly - all for 6 stunning cobs!

A huge big thank you to each and every one of you for your support of the 2026 @pinkladiestractorrun!

The total is in and a staggering £129,000 has been raised this year for breast cancer research at @cr_uk - that means that since the tractor run started in 2004, we’ve raised a staggering total of nearly £1.5million!

I’m so utterly proud to be a part of the team - as voluntary press officer and as a pink lady behind the wheel of my beloved tractor.

We’re already looking forward with gusto to 2027. Thank you all xx

A cacophony of dahlias!

August bank holiday weekend is always a joy as I get to visit the @norfolkandsuffolkdahliasociety annual show!

I always return home inspired by the flurry of advice and top tips from seasoned growers and armed with the most glorious array of blooms, thank you!

These impressively nurtured flowers are a world away from my homegrown dahlias and it’s always a treat to see the love and dedication poured into growing these beauties - especially in a year where the weather has really made gardening a challenge!

Thank you for the joy!

England has returned to factory settings and isn’t it wonderful!

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love another heatwave but in a week or so!

Fig season!

So far it’s been another cracking year for figs, I seem to harvest 10 at a time and minutes later there are more ready to pick. They’ve been enjoyed baked with Stilton, parma ham and homegrown honey, bubbled into jam and atop pizzas!

How do you enjoy eating figs?

Not much is growing well here given the dry, dry conditions but tonight we are hailing the mighty cucumber, well 10 to be exact!

There will be pickle to accompany crab cakes, ice cream bursting with zestiness and gazpacho for hot summer lunches…

If you fancy giving cucumber ice cream a go, head over to my website for the recipe, trust me, it’s pretty epic!!

My annual homage to broad beans 🫘

And yes, I do grown broad beans solely for this dish. They are crushed and muddled with garlic, lemon, white balsamic vinegar, mint and oil and lashings of seasoning - all served on toasted sourdough rubbed with garlic.

It’s a true sensory joy!

What a day it was!

A massive thank you to everyone who has supported this year’s Pink Ladies Tractor Road Run. The sun shone and thousands upon thousands of people turned out to cheer on more than 180 women, driving almost 200 tractors of every shape, size and age.

I laughed, I cried, I waved and smiled a lot! I thought of those battling breast cancer and friends who were missing this year. Most of all my treasured Aunty Betty who died of breast cancer.

Since it began as a one-off fundraiser in 2004, the Pink Ladies’ Tractor Road Run has raised more than £1.36 million for Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer appeal.

This year, we hope we will take the overall fundraising total beyond the incredible £1.5 million milestone.

Every single pound raised helps fund life-saving breast cancer research, so if you enjoyed watching the run, there is still time to donate to this amazing cause. The link to my fundraising page is in my bio 👆and the final total will be announced in September...

Huge hugs and love,
Kate xx

Thanks to @jonoslack for the wonderful photos!

Ps others might feel differently but I will never tire of this song!
